Last night a friend and I decided to travel to a local watering to catch the Canada vs Slovakia men’s Olympic Hockey game on NBC. The bar had finally caught up with the times and switched to flat screen high def TVs and direct tv service so it was the perfect place to go watch.
A week ago Canada really seemed lost after their loss to the United States. However, they seem to have really bounced back.
Slovakia has been the surprise of the tournament so far with the way they have defeated Russia and Sweden. This did not seem to matter once they stepped onto the ice with Canada as the men wearing the maple leaf jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Slovakia made it a really interesting game towards the end by bouncing back with goals from Lubomir Visnovsky and Michal Handzus with less then 10 minutes left in the game. If it was not for Roberto Luango’s excellent save towards the very end of the game when Slovakia pulled their goalie the game could have very well been tied.
The chants of ‘We want USA’ were very noticeable towards then end of the game and now the Canadians get what they asked for, to play the United States in the gold medal game!
