Political disputes creates GOP split between House and Senate

Washington ((CNN)) -at the end of a day long and confusing political debate over extending the payroll tax cuts, minority leader Nancy Pelosi asking the question on everyone’s mind.

“People should be worried and wondering why on earth do we get the payroll tax cut when everyone said they were for it,” Pelosi, D-Calif., said at a news conference Tuesday.

The answer involves suspected partisan divide in Congress and politics in the upcoming elections.

Currently, though, there’s another factor: the turmoil among Congressional Republicans that have resulted in a rift between GOP members of the public house and Senate.

On Tuesday, House Republicans pushed their call for further negotiations on a one-year extension of cutting payroll taxes. They derided the Senate plan for a two-month extension of responsible and unworkable, saying it would create uncertainty fail to resolve the problem last February.
